River Bourne Community Farm

River Bourne Community Farm is a community based project with the purpose of creating a working farm from the 1960s for the Salisbury area.

It is aimed at giving people the opportunity to learn about how a farm works and working with others to help develop a sense or purpose and achievement. There is also an area allocated for growing root vegetables such as carrots, parsnips and potatoes. Volunteers can learn how to plant, harvest, prepare and cook the vegetables that they have grown. The aim of River Bourne Community Farm is for all that enter to go away with skills gained by working on the farm.

The livestock reared on the farm are older and more rarer breeds. The farm is not a petting farm as the animals are raised to be sold commercially and raised with the best quality of life that can be offered to them. The sheep and cattle have quality grazing on the water meadows and their pigs have their own compound with a dry ark to sleep in at night. During the summer the pigs have a well watered wallow and shade to cool off. The goats have their own pen and go for walks each day so they can feed on the abundant thistles and brambles in the hedgerows. Hens are kept for their egg production and to be sold on as meat. The eggs are sold in their farm shop.
